Okay, so you now know what social networking is and you’re familiar with how to create your profile and browse the community - now what? Well, if your goal is to get the word out about your business and attract potential clients or customers, it will be important for you to brand your business within the social network community. Simply joining various social networks and browsing in the community is not enough to bring attention to who you are and your business. You must be an active participant and provide useful resources, as well as promoting your business to others. In other words you must prove that you and your business are credible and sincere.
Below are 7 ways to brand your business online through social networks:
1. Connect with other community members and invite them to be your “friend”.
- The whole purpose of social networks is to connect with like-minded individuals on a more global level. One easy way to get started with finding individuals have your same likes is to review all of the different groups that are within the social community. Usually if someone joins a particular type of group, it means that they have interest in the subject.
- You can also click on photos of other community members and read their profiles. You might consider posting a message on their profile pages as well.
2. Choose compatible social networks to join.
- When it comes to branding your business online, it is important to choose networks that also have your target market as a part of the community. This step cannot be overlooked, because this is an important decision.
3. Post to your blog
- Most social networks provide a blogging feature for each community member. Take advantage of it and post useful information, tips, resources and offers on your blog. Most social networks feature the latest blog entries on their front page.
4. Consider creating your own group
- Another powerful feature on social networks is “groups”. Creating a group allows you to have your own personal network within the social community. As the group moderator/owner, it is your responsibility to keep discussions moving, invite community members to join your group and police the group to ensure that practicing proper networking etiquette.
- Note: Starting a group should be considered carefully. It does require management and attention. You must weigh the advantages vs. disadvantages before doing it. Most social networks will delete groups that have no active participation or are not being managed properly.
5. Upload pictures of your products, designs or a special report that you want to provide freely.
6. Offer discounts and specials just for the social network community you belong to. Note: Make sure that when individuals visit your website that they can see the value.
7. Create a signature within your profile settings.
- A signature has your name, company and a link or two of resources that you would like the reader of your message to check out. This way when you are posting messages to other community member’s profiles or sending private messages your signature will automatically post to the end of your message.
