How to Post Relevant Content On Your Website
How to Post Relevant Content On Your Website!
Posting relevant and timely content on your website not only keeps the interest of your visitors, but it can also help you to establish a trusting relationship that can result in sales, referrals and repeat visits.
4 questions you should ask yourself when deciding on content for your site are:
- Who is your target market?
- What are the keywords that your target marketing/visitors would put in Google to find my site?
- What do I want visitors to respond to when the come to my site?
- How can I cross-promote my products or services using my content pages?
Keywords
Knowing the right keywords to use when writing your content is a key factor in not only getting the search engines to properly index your site, but it allows you to draw the right type of visitors as well.
Keywords are simply the most common words or phrases that represent what your site is about and what most individuals would enter into a search engine to find your type of products or services.
A good resource to use is Google Keyword Tool. It allows you to search a specific word or phrase and then gives you a list of results showing you how many people are searching for them. NOTE: If you open up a free Google account you can also use more features of the search tool.
You can also take it one step further by clicking on any of the keywords you see pop up on the results list and Google will drill down and give you additional relevant keywords that might help you to better niche or focus your content.
Learning to write your content with rich keywords is probably the most important part of website marketing all together, so get use to the term "keywords" and start learning how people are searching for what you offer!
Focusing Your Visitors
Having a pretty website is great, but if it doesn't result in sales it's not doing you a whole lot of good! Can you easily see what your offerings are when you visit your website homepage? If you can't, how are your visitors able to see it - they can't either!
Do you have a way your visitors can stay in connection with you, such as an e-newsletter offering, special report or free product sampling in exchange for their contact information? By the way, this type of offer is normally placed in the top right side of the header or the top right column.
Focusing your visitors on what they should do when they visit your website should be placed as a priority during your site planning. For example, if you have a service business you might place a special offer or free service front and center after the welcome area on your site. If you have a membership site then placing a "getting started" or "sign up for membership" should be placed in the same manner. Don't leave it to the imagination of your visitors to know what to do.
Landing Pages
Landing pages are another great way to focus your visitors attention to a specific product or service. This is especially true whenever you want to use links on your on site while blogging, social networking or placing Internet ads, such as Facebook or Google Adwords.
By using a specific page on your site that only focuses on one product or service you can help your visitor to focus and gain interest in what you're offering.
Elements of a Landing Page might include:
- Title Heading (Remember to stay keyword-focused)
- Brief Description or inviting paragraph
- Video, Audio or Image
- Sign-up box for contact information
- First and Last Name
- Phone Number
- Call to Action statement for offer
- Payment Link
Examples of Landing Pages: (Just click on the company names under each example.)
Example #1
Ion Interactive's goal is to offer the visitor a 31 ways to improve your landing page report. You'll see the sign-up box to the right of the information.
Example #2
Web Marketing expert, Lavada Thompson knows exactly what she wants her visitors to do - experience her first hand by listening to a teleclass recording. As you see to get the recording they have to complete the sign-up box to the right.
Example #3
Stream cosmetics offers a business opportunity on their landing page using video, audio and directional boxes. Their goal is to have visitors participate with them in 3 chosen target areas : shop their site, join their business opportunity or host a party. You'll see the sign-up box to the right.
Your landing page can be simple using a great header title, one image, description and sign up box or you can get more detailed. The most important thing to remember is to keep the navigation simple and the information key-word focused and about one action that you would like the visitor to take.
Using Your Content to Draw Attention to Other Products or Services
It's really easy to have the keywords correct and even your content relevant and yet no sales are being generated, because you haven't connected the information to your products or services. This is often a big mistake made by the majority of small business websites.
When planning your content you should automatically know what products or services would work well to cross-promote on the page. You can do this by softly mentioning the product/service with a link to the landing page and/or use a graphic banner to the right of the content, which when clicked on goes directly to the landing or product page.
While you should be able to cross-promote relevant products or services be careful about making the content page appear to be a full sales page. Remember, the right content creates a relationship in the mind of the visitor and causes them to trust what they're reading.
Conclusion
A small business can have a website that is not as attractive, but have relevant and keyword rich content and cross-promote it's products or services and make a great income. A pretty website that doesn't practice posting relevant and keyword rich content is well, just another pretty website!
